Legislative Rural Caucus Chair – Assemblymember Frank Bigelow

September 26, 2013

Legislative Rural Caucus Connects with the Mountain Counties Water Resources Association

Assemblymember Frank Bigelow:  As chair of the Legislative Rural Caucus, it is my privilege and duty to stand up for rural California in Sacramento. One way to do this is to team up with other organizations that also represent those areas and their priorities. With a lot of attention being paid to water issues in the coming legislative session, it is important to create a link between rural legislators and water resources leaders in the mountain counties.
This is an important partnership that will allow rural California representatives to more effectively represent their constituents.

Funding for Legacy Mine Cleanup Established in New Water Bond Bills

September 5, 2013

The Sierra Fund has spent nearly a decade working on the problems associated with legacy mines, and has developed a strong coalition of organizations interested in finding solutions to these problems.

This coalition includes Nevada Irrigation District, El Dorado County Water Agency and Mountain County Water Resources Association;  private businesses including Teichert Materials; and a large number of conservation groups including Tuleyome, Environmental Working Group, Planning & Conservation League and the Sierra Nevada Alliance.

The Sierra Fund’s advocacy campaign to “Get the Mercury Out” is reflected in three different places in the new Assembly water bond bill now under consideration in the legislature.

Rim fire: Disaster shows need to invest in Sierra forests and California’s water supply

August 28, 2013

Special to the Mercury News

Assemblymen Brian Dahle, R-Bieber, and Rich Gordon, D-Menlo Park, wrote this for the Mercury News

“The two of us have many differences. One is a Republican, the other a Democrat. One represents a rural district, the other predominately suburban communities. There is plenty we do not agree on. But we are in total agreement on the benefits that flow from the Sierra Nevada to all of California, the most obvious of which is water. “…

“We will work together to ensure the needs of this region are part of the discussions addressing California’s water future. Our constituents in rural Northern California and the metropolitan Silicon Valley have much riding on this.”
