McMillen, Inc. foundation began in the hydroelectric industry and remains one of our foremost business lines today—having completed over 175 projects at hydro facilities. We bring skills in analyzing alternatives, planning, design, procurement, construction or construction management, testing, and commissioning. Currently serving clients from 21 offices with over 500 staff members worldwide, our technical skills include expertise in dam safety, mechanical, electrical, structural, hydraulic/hydrology, geotechnical/geology, environmental, and civil engineering. We provide solutions focused on simple and reliable systems to improve functionality, keep operational and maintenance costs lower, minimize interruptions to operating facilities during construction, accommodate a limited site footprint and environmentally sensitive location, and comply with FERC regulations.
Our work has included inspections, upgrades, and repairs to dams, gates/hoists, trash rake/racks, turbine/generator units, powerhouse and supporting structures, access roads, switchyard equipment, generator and excitation systems, lighting, and SCADA and PLC systems. We also employ specialists in dam safety, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensing and regulatory assistance, environmental, fisheries, fire protection, and permitting. Often, our firm is selected for the more technically challenging projects—both in design and construction.
