Mountain Counties Water Resources Association Board of Directors Adopts 2025 Legislative Platform

MOUNTAIN COUNTIES, Calif. April 02, 2025 – The Mountain Counties Water Resources Association (MCWRA) Board of Directors has formally adopted its 2025 Legislative Platform, reinforcing the Association’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the water interests of California’s mountain counties. The platform was developed under the guidance of the MCWRA Legislative Committee and is aligned with the Association’s longstanding Policy Principles.

The 2025 Legislative Platform outlines MCWRA’s advocacy priorities and provides a framework for engaging with legislation and regulatory actions impacting the region’s vital water resources. The MCWRA Policy Principles serve as the foundation for MCWRA’s advocacy efforts, guiding the Association’s work to protect water rights, promote watershed health, and ensure sustainable water management across California’s mountain counties

“Over 60 percent of California’s developed water supply originates in the Sierra Nevada headwaters, and our 2025 Legislative Platform reflects our region’s essential role in statewide water resilience,” said Scott Ratterman, MCWRA President. “This platform equips us to advocate proactively, ensuring that the unique needs and values of mountain communities are considered in all water-related policymaking.”

The platform will guide MCWRA’s engagement at the state and federal levels throughout the year, addressing key topics such as water rights, forest and watershed health, water infrastructure investment, and equitable governance.
