MOUNTAIN COUNTIES, Calif. (November 21, 2024) – The Mountain Counties Water Resources Association (MCWRA) is proud to announce the addition of the Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority (UMRWA) as its 50th member, strengthening MCWRA's commitment to advocating for sustainable water resource management and fostering collaboration across the Sierra Nevada and its foothill communities.  UMRWA is a joint powers authority engaged in the stewardship of the Upper Mokelumne’s natural resources with a mission to develop partnerships, formulate plans, execute projects, and leverage federal and state investments for widespread regional benefit.

"The Upper Mokelumne River Watershed Authority is a vital steward of one of our region’s most important watersheds, and their expertise and dedication align perfectly with MCWRA's mission," said Scott Ratterman, President of the MCWRA Board of Directors.  "We are excited to work in partnership with UMRWA to advance solutions that protect and enhance our water resources for future generations."

UMRWA plays a crucial role in managing the Mokelumne River watershed, which provides drinking water for 1.4 million Californians and supports vital ecosystems.  By joining MCWRA, UMRWA will contribute its insights to regional discussions while benefiting from the association’s extensive network of water resource professionals, policy advocates, and public agencies.

"Our membership in MCWRA reflects our shared commitment to the sustainable management of water resources and the communities we serve," said Terry Woodrow, Board Chair for UMRWA.  "We look forward to collaborating on initiatives that balance environmental stewardship with economic and community needs."

The addition of UMRWA represents a significant expansion of MCWRA's coalition, bringing together local and regional agencies and partners dedicated to safeguarding water reliability, promoting sustainable resource management, and protecting the natural landscapes that provide water to millions of Californians.

MCWRA serves a total of 50 Executive, Affiliate, and Associate Members across 12 of California’s mountain counties, including Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra, Tuolumne, and Yuba Counties.
