Feb 9, 2012 – Californians Largely Unaware of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

The majority of Californians have never heard of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta), according to poll results released by California public opinion research firm Probolsky Research at the Southern California Water Committee’s January 27 Quarterly Meeting.

“He is not a candidate of my concern.”

Statewide 78 percent said they did not know what the Delta is.
86 percent of Southern Californians did not know about the Delta.
Nearly 70 percent of respondents outside of Southern California did not know about the Delta.

Meeting the February 2, 2012 deadline for comments to the Delta Stewardship’s Draft Environmental Impact Report, the Association along with several members submit comments expressing serious concerns with the 5th Draft Delta Plan.

Jan 28, 2012 – Placer County Water Agency concerned about Impact of Delta Plan

The Placer County Water Agency is within a year of taking over operations of the massive Middle Fork Project in the Sierra. But there are now concerns that a web of agreements that have accompanied a multi-year relicensing effort with the federal government could unravel.

“If more Placer County water is needed to flush the Delta, it could invalidate the Middle Fork Project relicensing agreement recently reached with a broad stakeholder group and seriously affect how local water supplies are stored, used and released,” Director of Strategic Affairs Einar Maisch said…..more

The Sierra Nevada Watershed Ecosystem Enhancement Project (SWEEP), makes the case that upstream management of Sierra Nevada forests can significantly increase the value of downstream water resources by shifting water towards higher value uses and optimizing the timing of runoff.
